Soybean Technology
NuTech is synonymous with "new technology" and that is certainly true in soybeans. The two biotech herbicide systems in soybeans are both available through NuTech. NuTech has a number of new great looking soybeans with the LibertyLink® technology that represents an alternative to the Roundup Ready® technology that has become an industry standard. AYT™ technology from Pioneer in G2® Genetics promises some exciting new yield advancements and new product components in seed treatments round out the exciting technology advancements for 2010.

ROUNDUP READY® SOYBEANSRoundup Ready® was the first and original biotech trait in soybeans. Roundup Ready® soybeans were first introduced in 1996 and in 12 years have grown to a 98%+ market share in the United States. The use of glyphosate herbicide on the soybean crop has allowed exceptionally weed free fields and has become a standard herbicide treatment for most Midwest soybean farmers. NuTech has established a reputation as “The Midwest’s Undisputed Yield Leader™” and has an unmatched lineup of Roundup Ready® soybeans through all maturities with an outstanding array of traits. Extensive use of glyphosate has created some weed tolerance issues so management of the Roundup Ready® system to not allow resistance weeds to develop is important. |

LIBERTYLINK® SOYBEANSLibertyLink® soybeans is a new herbicide biotech trait that gives soybeans tolerance to the herbicide Ignite® which is a reformulation of the old Liberty® herbicide. Ignite® is a non-selective contact herbicide that has no known weed resistance at the present time. Bayer is promoting LibertyLink®soybeans as an alternative to Roundup Ready® soybeans in non selective herbicide use. Ignite® will kill Roundup Ready® soybeans and corn and vice versa with Roundup applied on LibertyLink® corn and soybeans. LibertyLink® has cleared all of the regulatory hurdles and can be grown with no restrictions in 2010. There appears to be no "yield drag" with the LibertyLink® trait and several new soybeans are available for 2010. |

AYT™ FROM G2® GENETICSAccelerated Yield Technology™ (AYT) from Pioneer is available in G2® Genetics soybeans. Pioneer is claiming the new technology has the potential to double the rate of genetic gain. AYT is a molecular breeding process to increase the yield potential of new brands at a faster pace than traditional breeding. Molecular markers have been used to incorporate defensive traits but with AYT, markers are also used to increase yield. AYT is the first technology to use molecular markers as a yield enhancement tool. Nearly all of the G2® soybeans available through NuTech have been developed using the AYT technology. |
VISTIVE® SOYBEANSLow-linolenic oil from Vistive® low-lin soybeans enables food companies to reduce or eliminate trans fat from processed foods. Producers may grow Vistive® soybeans under contract with participating processors or grain outlets and earn a premium over the prevailing market price. The producer must have a contract to purchase Vistive® soybeans and contracts can be arranged from several soybean processors or grain outlets. If there is interest in Vistive® soybeans contact your local NuTech soybean dealer for availability. |

SMARTCOTE™ SEED TREATMENTRoundup Ready®, LibertyLink® and AYT™ technologies are genetically "in" the seed while SMARTCOTE™ is technology applied "on" the seed. Exciting advancements in seed treatment technology are creating new yield enhancing possibilities for soybeans. SMARTCOTE™ is a registered brand that guarantees the best available seed treatment combinations for NuTech customers. The composition of SMARTCOTE™ may change as new products are developed. Exciting new products that stimulate certain metabolic processes in the soybean show promise in enhancing yield. SMARTCOTE™ and SMARTCOTE™ EXTRA contain the very best in seed treatment technology. |
