RESEARCH
NuTech’s proprietary research program not only evaluates soybeans for outstanding yield potential, but also evaluates soybeans for resistance or tolerance to Phytophthora Root Rot, Brown Stem Rot, Soybean Cyst Nematodes, Iron Deficiency Chlorosis, Sclerotina White Mold and Sudden Death Syndrome. Since the Soybean Cyst Nematode is by far the most yield damaging soybean pest in the country, creating well over a billion dollars of damage to the soybean crop each year, NuTech spends considerable time and effort in evaluating soybeans for cyst nematode resistance.
Breeding for resistance to Soybean Cyst Nematode involves three recessive genes for cyst resistance and is therefore a very difficult process. Because breeding for cyst resistance is difficult, soybeans are released by companies that do not have full cyst resistance. ProSoy Genetics has developed a world class cyst nematode laboratory and all NuTech cyst resistant soybeans are evaluated in the laboratory for a “cyst index” that measures the cyst resistance of the soybean.
