From Top Soybean Sales to Top Yields: How One Grower Finds MORE with NuTech

For Ty Meyer of Liberty, Illinois, farming and family go hand in hand—and NuTech Seed helps him succeed at both. As a fourth-generation farmer and longtime NuTech dealer, Ty has built his operation around performance, satisfaction, and balance.

Ty farms corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa with his dad, Marvin, and brother, Ryan. They also feed cattle and manage a mix of rolling and flat ground, from highly erodible hillsides to thick “gumbo” bottomland. “We do what the land needs,” Ty says. “You can’t manage every acre the same way.”

After earning his agricultural economics degree from the University of Illinois in 2010, Ty returned home to the farm and faced a severe drought. “I started farming in 2011, and 2012 was the drought,” he recalls. “We averaged 8 bushels of corn and 20 bushels of beans per acre. That was tough.”

That same year, Ty became a NuTech dealer, drawn to a company that combined personal relationships with strong Corteva Agriscience genetics. Within two years, the Meyer family switched their acres entirely to NuTech products. By 2015, Ty had become NuTech’s top soybean dealer—a reflection of both the products’ performance and the trust he’s built with local growers.

MORE Performance

Across his acres, Ty relies on a mix of non-GMO corn, PowerCore® Enlist® corn, and Enlist E3® soybeans, with about ten percent under irrigation. He uses a combination of stale-seedbed, no-till, and conventional tillage, depending on soil type. His fertility plan includes potash in the fall, DAP in the spring to capture nitrogen value, and anhydrous, mostly applied in spring for efficiency.

Ty plants early—sometimes as soon as March—and credits  LumiGen® seed treatment technology for giving him confidence. “Seed treatments give us confidence to plant earlier, even when soils are on the cool or damp side,” he says.

That approach produces results on his farm. “Our yields have become more consistent each year,” Ty says. “NuTech’s early corn has been a steady performer, and the soybeans hold up well in all kinds of weather.”

MORE Satisfaction

For Ty, dependable performance brings peace of mind. “You can count on it,” he says. “That’s one less stress factor. That consistent performance is why we’ve stayed with NuTech all these years.”

He also values the partnership behind the brand. His district sales manager, Wayne Bingham, helps keep operations smooth. “Wayne takes the weight off your shoulders—he keeps everything on schedule, from shipping to paperwork,” Ty says. “He makes life easier.”

MORE Life

With three young kids—twins Kate and Evie and son Archie—and his wife, Brittany, a local veterinarian, Ty values time off the tractor as much as time in it. “If you plant something you don’t have to baby, you gain time for your family,” he says.

For Ty Meyer, NuTech provides MORE—more performance, more satisfaction, and more life. “Work doesn’t bother me,” he says with a grin. “But NuTech helps me do what I love—and still be with my family.”
